September 30, 2020

Dear Families,

We know that September has been anything but typical, but Wagner is excited and prepared to welcome students back into our building for the first time since March.

We will start our in-person cycle for cohorts A - C on Thursday, October 1st. The October calendar below reflects the days that each cohort will report to Wagner Middle School for in-person instruction. If your student is in Cohort D, they will continue their instruction remotely each day.

Please know, if a student arrives at Wagner on a day different from their assigned day, a staff member will contact an adult listed on the emergency contact card to pick up the student from Wagner. As per NYCDOE guidelines, in order to limit exposure and to maintain the number of students and staff permitted in each classroom, students attending school on the wrong day cannot join another cohort.

Health Screening

It is extremely important to keep your student home if they are feeling sick. Additionally, if their symptoms are consistent with COVID-19, it is important that they get tested.

Before entering our building, all students will have to complete a health screening, which includes a daily temperature check. The NYCDOE has developed a Health Screening digital APP and a Paper Health Screening Questionnaire for families to complete a screening prior to sending students to the building.

  • To complete the screening at home via the digital app, access the online health screening at healthscreening.schools.nyc . Students will then show the results of their screening by showing the email on their phone prior to entering the building.
  • To complete the screening at home via the Paper Health Screening Questionnaire, print and complete a copy of the attached form each day. Students should bring the completed form to school and show it upon entry. Paper Health Screening Questionnaires are attached.
  • If a student is unable to pre-screen or does not complete the screening via digital APP or paper questionnaire prior to arriving at the building, a Wagner staff member will be available at morning arrival to assist students in completing the form, including a temperature check.
  • All students will receive an oral thermometer and additional Paper Health Screening Questionnaires during their first week of in-person instruction.

Morning Arrival and Dismissal

Each grade has been designated a separate arrival and dismissal location. Students should enter and exit the building only at their grade level location.

6th Grade: School Yard - Enter through the gate on 75th Street closest to 2nd Avenue

7th Grade: Gym - Enter through the doors closest to 75th Street and 3rd Avenue

8th Grade: 76th Street - Enter through the doors closest to 76th and 2nd Avenue

  • For the first cycle of A - C cohorts, while students and staff navigate morning arrival procedures, we are asking you follow these guidelines for morning arrival:

○        If your last name begins with the letters A-L, you arrive at your location between 8:05 - 8:15.

○        If your last name begins with the letters L-Z, you arrive at your location between 8:15 - 8:30.

  • When students enter at their designated entrance, students will be directed by school staff to maintain 6 feet of physical distance, according to floor and sidewalk markings. Additionally, as stated above, a staff member will request to see each student’s health screening, and then be directed to the appropriate entrance.
  • As per the NYCDOE guidelines, in addition to daily health screening, a random sample of students may have their temperature taken with a forehead thermometer upon entry to the building. The results will not be shared or recorded. If a temperature is 100 degrees or higher, the student will be escorted to the nurse for follow-up.
    • Please see attached room assignments and be sure your child knows which room they are to report to each day.
    • As per NYCDOE guidelines, at all times, students and staff must wear face coverings protecting their nose and mouth while at school or on their way to school. Face coverings must be worn at all times except while eating or drinking. It is recommended that students come to school with a mask that they are comfortable with; however, the school has a supply of masks for students who arrive without one.
    • As previously shared, classrooms and other spaces have been equipped with hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies to be used frequently throughout the day. Students will be encouraged to wash/sanitize their hands when they enter the classroom.
    • Students will be dismissed at 1:58 PM from the locations listed below.

6th Grade: School Yard - Exit through the gate on 75th Street closest to 2nd Avenue

7th Grade: Gym - Exit through the doors closest to 75th Street and 3rd Avenue

8th Grade: 76th Street - Exit through the doors closest to 76th Street and 2nd Avenue

Breakfast and Lunch

Grab and Go Breakfast will be available for all students at each entrance during morning arrival. Lunch will be delivered to each classroom. Students may bring their own lunch, but will not be allowed into the community for lunch until social distancing restrictions have been lifted. Breakfast and lunch will be eaten in classrooms. To assist in keeping classrooms clean and safe for all, please remind your child not share food with their classmates.

Additionally, we ask that students come to school with a water bottle. Students can re-fill their water bottles at designated water-filling stations on each floor. Due to health and safety protocols, drinking directly from fountains will not be available.

Thank you for your support, patience, and collaboration for a successful school year.

Sincerely,

Jen
