Dear Families,

We are looking forward to our first days together as a Wagner Community. Our staff has been working hard to prepare to welcome your children back to school. We have truly missed seeing our young people and can’t wait! They are who make this challenging job worth it! Below I will outline some specific details about the next two weeks:

Student Orientation: Wednesday September 16th - Friday September 18th, 8:30 AM start time The student orientation will begin promptly at 8:30 AM and each day will last 1-2 hours each day. All students will engage in orientation remotely. They will not report to the school building on these days. Students will log into their advisory class google classroom. We highly recommend that you have your child make sure that all logins and technology are working prior to 8:30 on 9/16. We would also love to see all students live in our sessions. Seeing live video from students allows us to view social cues and get to know our students at a deeper level. However, if your child chooses not to have their camera on their screen name will be displayed. It is so important to have this visual as this is our first way of “meeting” your child. If you have particular concerns about devices or logins please contact your Grade Level Technology support person prior to the 16th so that we can assist you.

Grade 6: Dan Waldeck Grade 7: Kelli Buck

Grade 8: Charles Kim

On these days students will be provided with 1-2 hours of orientation information regarding procedures and community building. These days will also provide us an opportunity to connect with your students about their particular learning needs during remote and blended learning in order to best be prepared for their first official full days of school the week of 9/21. These three days are a nice dry run for families to ease into getting up and onto their devices again, build community, and ensure that we all have a chance to troubleshoot technology. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding on these days.

All students will log into account by following the directions below:

Health and Safety Procedures for in Person Days

A few notes for students who will be attending in-person in any of the three cohorts.

If a student is feeling sick, they are required to stay home and, if their symptoms are consistent with COVID-19, are asked to get tested. The NYCDOE is in the process of developing a Health Screening APP for families which will include daily temperature checks. We will share information if and when the APP becomes available. If a student begins experiencing symptoms in school, they will be seen by the school nurse or health care professional and monitored in the isolated room by a dedicated staff member until they are picked up by their family.

Each grade has been designated a separate arrival and dismissal location. Students should enter and exit the building only at their grade level location.

6th Grade: School Yard - Enter through the gate on 75th Street closest to 2nd Avenue

7th Grade: Gym - Enter through the doors closest to 75th and 3rd Avenue

8th Grade: 76th Street - Enter through the doors closest to 76th and 2nd

When students enter at their designated entrance, students will be directed by school staff to maintain 6 feet of physical distance, according to floor and sidewalk markings. The school day will begin at 8:30, with entry to the building beginning at approximately 8:25. A random sample of students may have their temperature taken with a forehead thermometer upon entry to the  building. Additional guidance regarding random temperature checks will be released soon from the DOE and shared with families. Once in the building, students will have opportunities to wash/sanitize their hands.

Currently scooter, skateboard, and bike storage are not available.

Grab and Go Breakfast will be available for all students at each entrance during morning

arrival. Lunch will be delivered to each classroom. Students may bring their own lunch but will not be allowed into the community for lunch until social distancing restrictions have been lifted.

It is important to remind students that physical distance must be maintained throughout the day in all parts of the building. Signage and directional markers have been placed inside the school to help ensure social distancing while traveling in the hallways and stairwells as well as in classrooms, bathrooms and the yard.

At all times, students and staff must wear face coverings protecting their nose and mouth while at school or on their way to school. Face coverings must be worn at all times except while eating or drinking. It is recommended that students come to school with a mask that they are comfortable with, however the school has a supply of masks for students who arrive without one.

Classrooms and other spaces have been equipped with hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies to be used frequently throughout the day. Additionally, cleaning of the school building will occur throughout the day in addition to a nightly disinfecting. Custodians will sanitize the building on a nightly basis with an electrostatic sprayer that is CDC approved. Cleaning and disinfection will include all high touch surfaces: classrooms, desks & chairs, conference tables, drinking fountains, door handles and push plates, conference tables, light switches, restroom fixtures, partitions and hardware, buttons on hardware, buttons on vending machines, elevator buttons, gym padding, and physical therapy equipment.

We are all looking forward to a great year together!
