2. JOIN US for a Family Engagement Visit exclusively for Wagner families with the New York Botanical Gardens, June 25th, 5pm

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As many of you who have had children at Wagner before this year know, I LOVE Family Field Trips to any of the 9 Urban Advantage locations! I typically coordinate a trip or two over Spring Break and then a few more in June. Unfortunately, that could not take place this year. However, I've teamed up with the New York Botanical Garden which created a truly fun and interactive family fun experience. I've done it myself to see what it was about, and it was wonderful. I highly recommend joining in the fun.

Here's the description:

Come join the New York Botanical Garden to play online Plant Trivia! Don't think you know much about plants? Think again! The questions will focus on plants in movies, product logos and plant-use in different cultures.  You will work in teams to answer the questions. You may see or interact with plants everyday- but don't even realize it!

If you and your family are interested in joining me on June 25th, 5pm, please fill out this quick survey so I can send you the link.

Parent Coordinator

3. We need your feedback!
2020 NYC School Survey

Given the current circumstances, and the focus on remote learning for school communities, we are providing everyone the opportunity to complete the NYC School Survey through June 26, the last day of the school year, in order to ensure as much opportunity as possible for respondents to have their voices heard. Because of the difficult circumstances this year, we encourage schools to administer the survey online, making it as easy as possible for schools to learn from their parents, students, support staff and teachers.

To take the survey online, you will need the survey access code.
There are 3 ways to acquire your unique survey code to complete the survey
1. Ms. Gonzalez can email it to you if you email her your child's name and OSIS number.
2. You can   click here to lookup your survey access code
3. You can call the hotline at 1-877-819-2363.

Please note: this survey is confidential. No one at the DOE will ever see your individual responses.

4. Arista Update

ARISTA notifications were sent to student Wagner email accounts on Wednesday June 17.  If your student was accepted, the virtual ceremony will take place on Wednesday June 24 at 5 PM.  A link will be provided to student Wagner email accounts prior to event.

6. Practice Makes Perfect Offers Free Summer Programming for 5,000 NYC Public School Students

Practice Makes Perfect Offers Free Summer Programming for 5,000

NYC Public School Students

New York, NY (June 12th, 2020) – To address the impact of COVID19 and mitigate the summer learning loss, Practice Makes Perfect (PMP) in partnership with the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation and The Heckscher Foundation for Children through a $1.4 million dollar grant have created a free virtual summer academic program for up to 5,000 NYC public school students who are completing Grades 3 – 8. The program is open to students attending both district and charter schools.

Over the summer, children in low-income neighborhoods  lose more than two months of their knowledge when they are not engaged in any learning. Summer 2020 is anticipated to be even more challenging given the disruptions in their learning that started in March.

In an effort to prevent the losses from compounding, PMP has designed an engaging online summer experience to help students combat the feeling of isolation and build on their knowledge in math and reading while having fun. The 18-day, 6-week summer program consists of 1.5 hours of live instruction with a PMP Teaching Fellow and one hour of independent learning work 3x per week (capping screen time to 7.5 hours per week).

NYC’s public school system is the largest in the nation. Over 70 percent of students are economically disadvantaged and more than three quarters identify as minority. PMP’s commitment to high-need communities has been clear from day one. Karim Abouelnaga, Founder and CEO, was raised by a single mother on government aid in Queens. As the second oldest of seven, he was raised in an environment where the learning stopped when school ended.

“In an unprecedented moment, our company has an obligation to create certainty and stability, especially across some of NYC’s highest-need communities.” Abouelnaga explains, “This work would not be possible without the generosity of our foundation partners. This is a beautiful example of a public-private partnership stepping up to fill a void at a critical moment.”

The deadline to apply is Friday, June 26th. You can apply by visiting the Practice Makes Perfect website at  www.practicemakesperfect.org and clicking on Virtual Summer at the top of the page.

Dear Families,

We are working on plans for re-opening school buildings in the 2020-21 school year, and exploring various options based on available guidance from public health experts.

Since we cannot yet predict what September will look like, we need to be prepared for a range of possibilities. We know we can’t do this without your input! We’ve created a short, anonymous survey to help us understand what is most important to you for when we return to school in the fall. If you know someone who cannot take the survey online, they can call 311.

Take the Return to School 2020 Survey
All parents/guardians of students in grades 3-K through 12, and students in grades 6-12 are invited to take the survey at  schools.nyc.gov/returntoschool2020. The survey is available in Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu.

Estimadas familias:
