June 1, 2020

Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe that it is about to be June and the 2019-2020 school year is drawing to a close.  What an unexpected year it has been for our community.  We are working hard to close out this school year for your children and preparing for next school year.

I wanted to be in touch around a few specific days in the coming weeks that will change our regular remote learning routines.

As per the DOE calendar, Thursday, June 4th and Tuesday, June 9th are planning days for teachers, but are now school days for students. It is important that your child logs in for attendance on these days. Wagner staff will be posting enrichment activities for students to engage in on these days.  There will not be new class assignments posted on Google Classroom on June 4th and June 9th.  Prior to engaging in these enrichment activities on Thursday, students should ensure that they have submitted all outstanding assignments in their classes.

Additionally, during the weeks of June 15 and June 22, each content department will have one day each week dedicated to planning and preparing for the 2020-2021 school year.  According to the schedule below, teachers in indicated content areas will be relieved of any office hours or live opportunities. All other departments will proceed with regular daily structures.

Department(s) Engaged in Planning

June 15 and June 22

June 16 and June 23

Mathematics, Visual Art, Theater Arts, Band

June 17 and June 24

Special Education Teachers and ENL Providers, Spanish

June 18 and June 25

Social Studies

June 19 (Friday) and June 25 (Thursday)

While I understand that this is a change to our daily structure, this time will allow Wagner staff to work collaboratively to develop thoughtful and flexible action plans for next school year. It is critical that we take time now to prepare for the various possibilities for instruction to ensure the transition in September is as smooth as possible. We hope this rotating schedule will allow for minimal disruptions to a student’s daily routine.
