Dear Families:
Please be made aware of a misspelling in the previous letter. The spelling of the young woman’s name who lost her life is Breonna Taylor. Our apologies for this error. We look forward to our community conversations on Monday.

Community Conversation about National Incidents of Racism

Dear Wagner Community,
We would like to take time to acknowledge the several incidents of racism that have recently occurred in our country.  The death of Ahmaud Arbery, the death of Breonna Taylor, the false accusation made against Christian Cooper, an African American man who was bird watching in Central Park, and the recent death of George Floyd, have left many of our community members dealing with a  range of emotions including scared, angry, and helpless.   While these topics are difficult to discuss remotely, we believe it is important to acknowledge them and share resources you can use to speak to your children.   Educating children to be anti-racist members of society is something that we can do to combat this societal problem.
"The beauty of anti-racism is that you don't have to pretend to be free of racism to be an anti-racist.  Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism where ever you find it, including in yourself. And it's the only way forward." - Ljeoma Oluo
The Equity Team will be hosting a Google Meet on Monday, June 1st at 10am for any students and staff that would like to come together to discuss their feelings and concerns regarding these incidents.  Please remind your child to use the following link to access the meet.
Please take some time to review the resources below that will help you guide further conversations with your children.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to the leaders of the equity team with questions.
