Parents as Art Partners in partnership with Wagner Middle School presents the “Wagner Family Arts Program 2020.”

Back, for the fifth year in a row, Wagner Middle School will have a 5-session family arts class with a teaching artist that works with a group of Wagner families. The program can accommodate 20 families (traditionally, 2 members per family but as we are doing this from home this year, the whole family is welcome to join as long as you use only one device per family).

Each week’s session is approximately 1 hour. This year, we are delighted to present a combination of photography and Stop Motion Animation

The purpose of the Wagner Family Arts Program is for families to learn, explore and indulge in the arts, together. As we have such a large school, and a limited number of spots per class allowed, we have requested that each family group consist of at least one participating guardian along with at least one middle school student.

What will you hope to accomplish per class?

Students and parents will work together with Teaching Artist Kostas Kiritsis for the following class agenda:

  • First session:
    • Explore Visual Arts History (for context)
    • Explore Framing and Composition principles.
  • Second session:
    • Make photocollages using photo (fashion or any other) magazines and make some artwork
  • Third session:
    • Family Portraiture
    • Still Life (exploring long tradition of picturing inanimate objects)
    • Lighting at Home (using existing lights to create pictures)
  • Fourth & Fifth sessions:
    • Stop Motion Animation.

What supplies do I need to have for class?

  1. For Session 1’s Collage: magazines, scissors and glue sticks needed
  2. For Framing, composition, still life: a smart phone, camera or tablet.
  3. For photography: Parents need to download Express Photo App
  4. For Stop Motion Animation projects: Parents need to download the iMotion App:
