Dear 7th grade students and families,

We wanted to share with you some exciting opportunities from the New York Historical Society for students this week.  Educators from the NYHS are hosting weekly online lessons for students as part of their “History @ Home” series during remote learning in NYC.

We hope that you are familiar with fantastic educational programs from the NYHS, as educators from the NYHS visited all Wagner 7th grade Social Studies classes earlier this spring. Additionally, some of our current 7th graders attended Wagner’s amazing week-long residency at the NYHS for the Academy for American Democracy program last spring as 6th graders.

Students, if you love history or want to deepen your understanding of what we’re learning this year, consider participating in one of the following opportunities this week:

  1. Some of our 6th graders participated in last week’s online Student Session at the NYHS about Direct Democracy in Ancient Athens, and the feedback their teachers received from them was very positive!  The next lesson in that series this Tuesday is about Representative Democracy in the early US, which is a great fit to our current unit. Don’t be concerned that it is advertised as a 6th grade lesson – 7th graders can participate too!
  2. If you’d like to learn more about Women in the American Revolution, from our last unit, Wednesday’s lesson is for you.

These are OPTIONAL opportunities. If you would like for your child to participate in one or both of these sessions, please use the links below to register.

We look forward to “seeing” some of our students at the NYHS this week!
