April 6, 2020

Dear Wagner Families,

I hope this communication finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy and your family has been able to successfully transition to the present reality of remote learning. We recognize that managing the remote learning workload, while managing your own life situations, has been an enormous challenge.

This past weekend, Chancellor Carranza announced that in response to COVID -19, remote learning will continue to be in session April 9th through April 17th, which was previously designated as Spring Break. As a result, remote learning will continue at Wagner in a manner which best meets the needs of our community. Families wishing to observe the religious holidays on Thursday, April 9th and Friday, April 10th, are encouraged to spend this quality time with their loved ones without worrying about missing school work. The Department of Education is not considering these days as “days off”, so students should continue to log in for attendance. Wagner staff will post optional activities on grade level Google Classroom for students and families to enjoy together.

For the week of April 13th - April 17th, students should continue to log in for attendance to continue remote learning, mirroring previous weeks. Grade level department teams will continue to provide instruction, post daily on Google Classroom, and host office hours. Students may also participate in Wellness Wednesday. Any questions should be directed to your grade level Assistant Principal.

The Department of Education recently issued updated guidance on learning platforms for video conferencing. At this time, NYCDOE is no longer permitting the use of Zoom due to security and privacy concerns. However, all G Suite applications, including Google Meet/Hangout, have been approved for use by staff and students. Effective Monday, April 13th, teachers will transition to engaging with students using Google Meet/Hangout to provide video conferencing and/or instruction at their discretion.

As we continue to support one another during this global pandemic, I want to thank all members of the Wagner community for your continued efforts to promote health, well-being and the importance of an education during these unprecedented times.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. Take care of yourselves and enjoy some time celebrating the small moments of beauty in our day to day lives.

Be well and stay safe.
