PARENT ACTION NEEDED! Help us secure Sufficient Afterschool Seats

Dear Wagner Families,

Please help us secure sufficient free after school program seats for next year by reaching out to our elected officials!

The backstory:

In 2018, Wagner was selected to participate in the School's Out New York City (SONYC) after school program, but was awarded only 130 free seats with Manhattan Youth.

As a school with about 1,400 students, Wagner typically has hundreds of kids enrolled in after school programming on any given day. Wagner families represent a wide range of economic backgrounds, and afterschool programs are so important for middle school kids!

We need help obtaining funding for an additional 400 seats to ensure after school programming for all Wagner students who need it!

Please personalize and send letters or emails and/or call your elected official's office urging them to help us get additional funding to accommodate at least 400 students.

For your convenience, we have attached letters you can personalize and print out, and we will have printed letters available for you to sign at Wagner during Parent Teacher conference hours.

Thank you!

Dear ______________________,
Thank you for your commitment to afterschool programs for all New York City students and to help ensure that every middle school students will have access to afterschool programming!
We are thrilled that in 2018 Wagner Middle School was selected to participate in the School’s Out New York City (SONYC) afterschool program which is funded by the DYCD Comprehensive After-School System of NYC (COMPASS-NYC) Initiative.
Wagner currently partners with Manhattan Youth to offer free afterschool programs to our students.
The challenge we face is that we were only awarded 130 seats for a school that currently has almost 1,400 students. Other comparable schools receive funding for seats to accommodate 30%-50% of the school population.
For this reason we are aiming to offer funded seats to at least 400 students.
Please help us reach out to DYCD to obtain funding for at least 400 seats. Without them, we run the risk that the students who need it most will not have afterschool programming available to them next year.
