September 2019

Dear Wagner Families,

We would like to take this opportunity to share some important community communication norms we would like to uphold in order to best serve our students. As an educational community of professionals, our highest priority is engaging in teaching and learning in our classrooms during the school day.  In order to devote as much time as possible to ensuring instructional excellence for your children, we are often away from email and phone during the school day.  To that end, we respectfully ask you to consider the following in communicating with our school staff:

  1. We encourage families to reach out to their child’s teachers and providers as their first line of contact.  Please see below about where to direct all types of concerns.
  2. We encourage families to reach out via email to schedule appointments to meet about concerns.  In these emails, please specify your child’s name, class, what you would like to meet about, and your potential availability. This allows us to prepare for our meeting with you in order to effectively and efficiently address your concerns.
  3. Additionally, teachers have regular parent engagement time scheduled for Tuesday afternoons, by appointment.  If you would like to meet with your child’s teachers during this time, please be sure to reach out to the teachers via email to schedule an appointment.
  4. In the case of a health or safety emergency, please reach out via phone to the main office so that we can address your urgent concern.  The main office can be reached at 212-535-8610, press 0.
  5. There is a high volume of communication in our school community. Our staff strives to address families’ communications within 48 hours Monday through Friday.  In order to streamline our communication process, please refrain from resending emails or sending multiple emails about the same concern prior to the 48 hour mark.  If your concern has not been addressed in the 48-hour time frame, please feel free to resend.

We are all working together to serve your child in our learning community.  We appreciate your partnership and communication to meet this goal.  It is always best to have substantive discussions in person or over the phone, not via email.  It is critical that we all communicate with kindness and respect at all times.

Sincerely,

Ms. Jennifer Rehn Losquadro

Principal
