Here are a few additional announcements before school begins.

1. Please see above locations flyer that was updated since yesterday. Please note: The 6th Grade Parent Orientation is at 8:45am, not 8:30am, as was previously mentioned.
2. Postcards with class placements will be mailed out just before Labor Day. For anyone who does not receive the postcard by September 4th, all staff will have your child's placement available throughout the school yard and lobby on September 5th.
3. For any communications to staff at Wagner pertaining to your child, we ask you to please include your child's full legal name as it appears in ATS, as well as their grade.
4.What should my child bring on the first day of school? Many parents ask what their child should bring to school on the first day of class. We recommend bringing the following on the first day. One folder, 2 pens, 2 pencils, some looseleaf, and a notebook. If you have donation supplies for the teacher, you child can bring them in over the first 2 days.
5. Sports Tryouts: Wagner's Sports Academy is a fee-based program run by Wagner teachers. If your child is interested in trying out for a fall sport, here are the directions:
  1. First, please sign up with Manhattan Youth, regardless of whether or not you want any other Manhattan Youth after school programs/activities. Although Wagner's Sports Academy is not currently under Manhattan Youth, we would like all families to go through the same process for after-school activities. .
  2. Before tryouts, all students will be invited to an "Interest Meeting" for that sport. In the interest meeting, students can ask questions and the coaches will explain what is expected for the team.
  3. Coaches will also give each student a waiver, to be returned and signed by the student's guardian.. Each coach will ask for the signed waiver for each individual sport's team. If your child is trying out for more than one team, they will need a waiver for each team tryout.  Without the signed waiver, students will NOT be allowed to tryout.
  4. As tryout-announcements are made by the coach to the students via the "Morning Announcements" -  I will collect those announcements and retype/send them via an eblast, as well as to post those announcements on the Wagner website. Typically, the coaches give a 1-3 week notice before tryouts. Once announced, each tryout announcement will be repeated daily to the students in their homerooms.
  5. All tryouts for the fall sports will start some time in September, or early October. Although I do not have the final fall line up, our school typically has the following seasonal sports
  •  Fall Sports: Tennis (non-competitive), Cross Country, Wrestling, Girls Volleyball, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Flag Football.
  • Winter Sports: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Cheerleading, Winter Track, Table Tennis.
  • Spring Sports: Rugby, Spring Track, Baseball, Softball, Boys Volleyball, Tennis

6. The first "Sixth Grade Coffee Chat" will take place on October 11th, 8:30am. What are coffee chats? 6th grade coffee chats are monthly informal meetings with the Parent Coordinator as well as her guest speakers. Her guest speakers may be one or more of the following: the Grade level AP, Guidance Counselor, the Principal, the Dean(s) or a member of the PA. Parents enjoy coffee and a share their thoughts as they also meet fellow parents and learn more about Wagner. There is no hard "agenda" for these coffee hours. They are meant to be both social and informal; however, I do invite the guest speakers to talk on specific topics. I will send out a signupgenius before each coffee chat to ask for Volunteers to bring light snacks.
7. PlannersThe homework planner is an organizational tool for students to organize and write down their homework. The charge for the Wagner Daily Planner is $7. Planners are given out in class during the first few days of school. Replacement planners are sold in the main office.
8. Wagner's September Calendar and October Calendar.

Regards,
Sheila Gonzalez-Liffey
