The New York Blood Center has announced a Blood Emergency appeal on Thursday morning, April 25th.

New York Blood Center is looking to reverse a significant downward decline in blood donors over the last ten years. With the overall decline at more than 30%, the need for O- blood donors has remained constant requiring that these special blood donors donate more frequently. Part of the decline has been managed to meet significant changes in hospitals with mergers and consolidations and better blood utilization. As the healthcare industry evolves, blood centers must be nimble and responsive.

New York Blood Center is being asked to serve more and more hospitals as some blood centers close their doors. We are proud to be growing to serve patients in new areas, but we cannot do it without you. Right now, blood supplies have reached critical lows, with all blood types dipping well below a seven-day reserve, including a one- to two-day supply of O- and B-. NYBC typically tries to maintain a seven-day reserve to ensure all patients and hospitals can access the blood they need.

It only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can be used to save multiple lives. Nearly 2,000 donations are needed each day in New York and New Jersey alone. About one in seven hospital admissions requires a blood transfusion, and with a limited shelf life, supplies must be continually replenished. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more. Donors with O-negative blood type, or “universal donors,” are especially encouraged to attend, as their blood can be used in emergencies.

The blood drive on 5/29/19 can help to improve the blood supply. Thank you for your ongoing support!  We cannot save lives without you.

Legacy Plaques
Dear Wagner Families,

Congratulations to all on another successful year at Wagner! There are many exciting events and culminating celebrations in the weeks ahead and we would like to invite you to honor your child in a permanent way by sponsoring a Legacy Plaque with your child’s name and their grade engraved on a seat in our auditorium.

These are a great remembrance for graduating 8th graders or current 6th and 7th graders! The plaques will be mounted permanently on the back of an auditorium seat for $100 each. The first line will feature your child’s name and the second line is for their graduating year “Class of 20__”.

Please return this form (below) with cash or money order for $100 made payable to Wagner MS 167 PA in an envelope marked Wagner Legacy Plaque and drop it in the white PA mailbox next to Sheila Gonzalez’s office (foyer to the nurse) no later than May 24, 2019. Or complete the form online and pay by credit card at If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Gottschalk at

Thank you in advance for all your support!
